Eyebrook And England Make It A Winning Double

I've just finished watching England on the telly having enjoyed a few beers in the process so I hope this post is at least partly coherent! Before the football Alan Shorrock and I did a mini twitch to Eyebrook in search of a Pectoral Sandpiper that had been reported earlier. An encouraging text update from Eyebrook regular Phil Rogers had suggested that we might strike lucky and so it proved.

Pectoral Sandpiper

On arrival at the bunker overlooking the sharp end another birder put us on to the Pec almost as soon as we arrived. Our views through the scope were good even though the bird was quite distant and I managed to get a few record shots before the bird was flushed by none other than the Red Arrows! Happily the bird returned and arriving at the same time were two beautifully plumaged Black-tailed Godwits, a Greenshank and a Redshank. Other waders noted either side of the flushing incident were a Ruff and half a dozen Little Ringed Plovers. Holding up the non wader end were a couple of Ospreys that we watched travelling up and down the res, I'd have liked to have stayed longer but the football's siren call dragged me away.
