Hordes Of Hairstreaks!

I joined Alan Shorrock for an after work visit to Glapthorn in order to catch up with the Black Hairstreaks which he saw there yesterday in good numbers. Happily for me they proved easy to see from the entrance onwards as they flitted and corkscrewed around the tops of the blackthorns. Initially they were far too flighty to get any pics, occasionally one would land for a brief moment but would be off before I could grab a photo. Luckily as the afternoon cooled a little they began to settle for longer periods and I was able to get a few pics. It's nice that in this dreadful year for butterflies one of our rarer species seems to be bucking the trend.
