Migrants taking Over

A morning eye test meant that I was out of the game until this afternoon but given how poor the weather was that was perhaps no bad thing! By the time I did get to Harry's Park Wood conditions had improved with the rain showers having moved on and leaving sunny intervals in their wake. There was not a great deal to report but on the plus side there were few other people strolling around and I enjoyed the peace and quiet.

Raven and Four-spotted Chaser

Several Ravens were noted over the wood, they appeared to be doing some sort of display which seems curious given that the breeding season is over. Other birds included several family parties of Marsh Tits and a Grasshopper Warbler. Highlight amongst the odes were the numbers of Migrant Hawkers hunting along the rides, I didn't manage to get any pics but there were ten plus on site. Other species included Southern Hawkers, a few Emperors, a Ruddy Darter and a Four-spotted Chaser. August always seems a little flat for butterflies after the highs of July but over ten species were seen. Plenty of Peacocks seem to be emerging and many patches of ragworts and thistles held at least one. Apart from these it was mostly tatty looking browns and Large Skippers that made up the list, a nice fresh looking Brimstone being the exception to this.
