Brisk, Bright and Breezy

Wandered over to Harringworth Lodge Lake today taking in Brookfield Plantation, Gretton and part of the Jurassic Way on my travels. It was pretty cold in the breeze particularly when out of the sun but was a pleasant stroll nonetheless.
Sunrise at Brookfield.

Brookfield, as is so often the case, was quiet with a Redpoll, a couple of Marsh Tits and a flock of forty or so Siskins the highlights. A Green Woodpecker called from close to the flooded quarry near Gretton while its Great Spotted cousin was seen in the village itself. Winter thrush numbers continue to build with Redwings in particular present in good numbers.

Harringworth Lodge Lake is no rival for just about any other water in terms of birds but it is a scenic spot to spent a few minutes or so. Coots remain common here and shared the water with about twenty Tufted Ducks, a few Mallards and a couple of fishing Cormorants, three more of the latter were roosting in the nearby trees. A Heron was fishing and a couple of Egyptian Geese continued this species quest for ubiquity at our local waters with a site first record.
Nothing too exciting to report....

Walking back it was nice to watch the Red Kites seemingly enjoying the windy conditions and they were joined at one point by a Raven. Gretton Village seems to be an excellent spot to watch kites and anyone with decent photographic equipment and a reserve of patience would probably do well.
....though these site first Egyptian Geese were not bad.

Not much else to report, it was one of those days to enjoy the views and the conditions but I really would quite like to relinquish my membership of the Hawfinch Dipping Society!
