Glossy Ibis Rules The Roost

Alan Shorrock and I took a wintery stroll around Summer Leys today where grey skies were the order of the day for the most part. We missed a Hen Harrier that flew past the feeding station just as we arrived and that was unfortunate as it was by far and away the best bird on site today. Second on the billing was the long staying Glossy Ibis which did have the decency to hang around even if it kept its distance during our visit.

Away from the ibis a female Stonechat showed reasonably well from Paul Britten Hide from where we also saw three Golden Plovers flying past. Four Great White Egrets rounded up the best of the rest with a small selection of wildfowl backing them up. Nothing much else was showing and so we decided to swap binoculars and the cold for a pint glass and an open fire and headed to the Coach and Horses for a beer and a blether instead.
